Note: This painting captures the water landscape of Jiangnan (south of the Yangtze River). Its close-up view shoes an earth mound, on top of which two big trees stand against the wind, a winding road, and a thatched pavilio at the riverside. The sketch lines for the mountain-rocks resemble the "hemp-fiber" texture stroke of the artist Juran from the Five Dynasties Period. The inscriptions indicate that this painting aimed to depict the rivers and the lakes in a moonlit night.

Chinese ..... 此圖取景江南水澤風光，近景畫江畔土崗，兩株大樹臨風而立，樹下置一茅亭，有蜿蜒小徑可穿越而過，直抵江邊。遼闊的江面，波水清澈：近岸蘆葦處，一葉扁舟沉靜地漂浮其間；舟上二人，前者文士打扮，遠眺江面，後為童僕，靜坐撐篙。對岸遠巒幾重，煙樹迷濛，房舍數間隱於林間，是一幅風情閑逸、寂靜清幽的山水佳構。山石線條勾寫柔潤，皴法出自五代巨然披麻一路，整幅畫面罩一層淡色水墨，充分掌握了大氣與光的表現。從畫上自題詩看來，所繪乃月夜江湖之景。 吳鎮精通命理，崇尚道家精神，一生未仕。此圖及詩可謂是他樂情山水，笑傲江湖的生活寫照，河岸中託身漁父的高士，或是其煙波釣徒的自況與隱逸情思的寄託。
