| Note: Ancient Roman aqueduct system constructed in order to drain local marshes, carrying waste to the River Tiber. It became a sewer during Imperial Rome, with regular renovations and alterations. Scholars date the first iteration of the system to the era of Tarquinius Superbus, in the 6th century BCE. | |
