De visvrouw (easel painting (painting by form); Adriaen van Ostade (Haarlem 1610 - Haarlem 1685-04-28); 1672; Rijksmuseum (Amsterdam, North Holland, Netherlands); SK-A-3246; RM001.collect.4907)
Note: A woman behind a fish stall is showing us wonderfully fresh fish. The light is falling directly on her face and hands. The woman looks out of the painting, 'talking' directly to the viewer. The bond between the viewer and the fishwife is strengthened by the painting's composition: by cutting off part of the market stall, the viewer appears almost to be standing in the stall. This painting is by Adriaen van Ostade.
