Note: The print reproduces a medal by Jean-Louis Thévenon that was commissioned by François-Pierre Palloy to be given to deputies in 1795. Commemorating the insurrection on May 31, 1793 and the coup d'état of 9 and 10 Thermidor Year II (July 27-28, 1794), the medal is also related to the uprising of 1-4 Prairial Year III (May 20-23, 1795), which resulted in the assassination of the deputy Féraud; "L'Arbitraire ayant précipité indistinctement dans la Maison de force de Paris ..."--five lines in the lower margin; French printmaker, who signed her works as M.lle (Mademoiselle) or as Citoyenne Rollet; Seated on the ground next to a pyramid dedicated to victims of anarchy, a personification of France weeps over an urn inscribed "Aux Manes de Fer" (To the manes of Féraud); Forms part of: Prints of the French Revolution, 1774-ca. 1840 (Special Collections, accn. no. P980009*). Publication: A Paris : Chez Depeuille, rue des Mathurins St. Jacques, [ca. 1795] (34501/publishers).
