Note: During the combat between royalists of Marseille and republicans of the Vaucluse along the Durance River, the young Viala was mortally wounded. He became a martyr for the Revolution; The portrait bust of the young revolutionary Joseph Agricol Viala of Avignon, who brandishes an axe, is set within an oval medallion that is enclosed within a rectangular frame decorated with horizontal lines; Forms part of: Prints of the French Revolution, 1774-ca. 1840 (Special Collections, accn. no.
