Note: A variant of the caricature, titled Bon mot d'une ambassadrice, the ambassadress being Madame de Staël, consort of the Swedish legate, was announced by the Journal de la cour et de la ville on November 21, 1791; The satirical print shows a bust of the Marquis de La Fayette incorporated into a candlestick. A candle extinguisher in the form of a hollow conical cap is inscribed "COCO."; Forms part of: Prints of the French Revolution, 1774-ca. 1840 (Special Collections, accn. no. P980009*).
