[Ascension of Christ] (engraving (print); Schelte Bolswert (Dutch painter and engraver, ca. 1586-1659)...; Published: 1600s; Getty Research Institute, Special Collections (Los Angeles, ...; 2583-337; 583337; accession number: 2002.PR.67*)
Note: Title from: Hollstein, no. 29; The engraver Schelte Bolswert, also named Schelte Adamsz Bolswart or Schelte à Bolswert, the younger brother of Boëce van Bolswert, first worked in Amsterdam, and from 1617 was documented in Antwerp; A reproductive print after a lost painting by Peter Paul Rubens. Although Rubens painted a scene of the Ascention of Christ on the ceiling of the former church of the Jesuits in Antwerp, that was destroyed by fire in 1718, the print possibly reproduces another unidentified painting by the Flemish artist (cf. Bodart). Publication: [16--].
