Erected as part of the celebrations in Rome in 1687 for the convalescence of King Louis XIV, the apparato was commissioned and possibly designed by Elpidio Benedetti, who had served as agent in Rome to Jules Mazarin and had written a volume of poetry in honor of Louis XIV (1682); The facade, which recalls that of the church of San Luigi dei Francesi, is adorned with an equestrian portrait of Louis XIV, fireworks, and a Catherine wheel that incorporates a sun; Oval stamp on verso: Double Echange No; Forms part of the Collection of festival prints, 1530-1887 (Special Collections accn. no. P910002**). Publication: 1687.
