Note: The celebration of the feast in 1724 was described in: Descrizione della festa popolare della porchetta (Bologna : Stamperia del Sassi, 1724); The print depicts bullfights performed at the festa della Porchetta in Bologna; On the left, the bull, just let loose, is attacking a dog, while men stand at a distance from the fierce beast. On the right, a man has managed to control the bull, and others run towards him. In the foreground, the bullfighters have seized the beast, attaching its horns to a pole. Others rest, leaning against large wine barrels and holding torches; The square is enclosed by galleries and towers with recessed niches. A monumental Baroque pavilion with protruding wings is seen in the background, with corridors, arcades and balconies overlooking the square; It is enclosed within a frame displaying the insignia of the Gonfaloniere and eight Anziani and adorned with a cartouche, imitation scroll buttresses, volutes and sprays of foliage; Trimmed within plate mark, glued to mount and numbered in ink in the right margin: 127. Library has another impression of the engraving in the Italian theater prints collection: accn. no. P980004 (bx.6,f.2); Forms part of the Collection of festival prints, 1530-1887 (Special Collections accn. no. P910002**). Publication: [1724].
