Note: The portrait medallion of King Louis XVI of France is set within an allegorical composition; The medallion inscribed "LUDOVICUS XVI. REX CHRISTIANISSIMUS," and resting on a cloud, is supported by a personification of Justice. Minerva is seated on the left, brandishing a shield. Truth appears on the right, holding a mirror. At the top, Abundance distributes flowers, fruit, and coins to a crowd arising from the clouds, while Deceit and Falsehood are crushed below; Forms part of: Prints of the French Revolution, 1774-ca. 1840 (Special Collections, accn. no. "Le Portrait de sa Majesté est soutenu par la Justice / La Sagesse et l'Abondance soulagens ses Peuples par leurs / bienfaits, et la Verité, délivrée du joug de la fourberie et du mensonge / réclame ses droits"--inscribed on the tablet below the allegorical composition.; "N. Le Mire, / Sculp., 1774"--inscribed in the lower center of the oval composition. The medallion inscribed "LUDOVICUS XVI. REX CHRISTIANISSIMUS."
