Note: The allegorical print relates to the horrors and institutionalized violence during the Reign of Terror in France. A revolutionary tribunal is set in a church, presided over by a skeletal figure named Energy, who breathes fire and holds a sheet from Marat's journal, L'Ami du peuple. In the lower left, Robespierre leads the fathers of the church of the Terror, Hebert, Chaumette, Le Bon and others that are identified by inscriptions. Robespierre holds a scythe and wears crossed bones of death under a carpenter's level, as emblems of his order; Forms part of: Prints of the French Revolution, 1774-ca. 1840 (Special Collections, accn. no.
