Note: Dedication in the scroll in the upper part of the image: All'Ill.mo ed Ecc.mo Sig.re Comm.re Fran.co d'Almada Mendonzza Visconte di Villanova da Souto d'El Rey ..; The print depicts the cavalcade accompanying Pope Pius VI to San Giovanni in Laterano on 30 November 1775 in celebration of his taking possession of the cathedral of Rome; An unusual feature is the presence of an artist seated to the side, who draws or records the procession. A companion standing next to him points at the triumphal arch designed by Francesco Milizia and commissioned by King Ferdinando I of the Two Sicilies; The inscription on the print suggests that it was executed before the cavalcade took place, which was planned on November 19, but postponed until November 30, because of heavy rain; Label pasted on verso: ALDWICK / HOLLAND ROAD / SUTTON / SURREY; Forms part of the Collection of festival prints, 1530-1887 (Special Collections accn. no.
