Note: The author or authors of the design are not specified in the inscriptions of the print that only indicate "Ex plurium inuentis". Fagiolo dell'Arco has attributed the apparati and the paintings on the facade to the painter and architect Antonio Gherardi, on the ground of a stylistic comparison with other works by Gherardi. The attribution to Gherardi is also supported by an inscription in another print by Bartoli, titled Salita del Monte Pincio, also issued to commemorate the celebrations; the inscription states that Gherardi was inventor of the project; Inscription in lower part of image: il no. di 400. torcie che ui erano non si è potuto scolpire, come anche molti altri ornamenti per uietar la confusione; An account of the festivities was published in Venice in Italian and in French by Vincenzo Coronelli: Roma festeggiante nel Monte Pincio ... (Venetia : Publicati dal padre m. Coronelli); An archaeologist, draftsman, etcher, and painter from Perugia, who was active in Rome; The print depicts a temporary decoration on the facade of the Church of Ss. Trinità dei Monti in Rome for the celebrations held on April, 29, 1685, commissioned by Cardinal d'Estrées on the occasion of the revocation of the Edict of Nantes by King Louis XIV; Forms part of the Collection of festival prints, 1530-1887 (Special Collections accn. no.
