Note: Starting in the 1740s and continuing throughout his career, Giovanni Battista Piranesi produced large-format plates, issued individually or in sets, known as the Vedute di Roma. The etching, from the Vedute di Roma, shows the ruins of the Marcia aqueduct water tower; Later issued under a different title ("Veduta dell'avanzo del Castello ..."), it served as the first plate after the frontispiece in Trofei di Ottaviano Avgvsto innalzati per la vittoria ad Activm e conqvista dell'Egitto; Vertical fold in center. Publication: [1751-1753].
