Note: Draftsman and etcher from Valduggia, Novara, who was active in Rome; The print shows a temporary balcony or apparato suspended from the facade of a palace on via del Corso near Piazza S. Marco [i.e. Piazza Venezia] in Rome from which Christina of Sweden watched the carnival masquerades, chariot processions, and horse races; A float designed by Gian Lorenzo Bernini and possibly Johann Paul Schor for the Chigi family can be seen in the lower right corner of the print; Forms part of the Collection of festival prints, 1530-1887 (Special Collections accn. no. P910002**). | |
