Note: The print depicts the ceremonial of the conclave held when the Holy See was left vacant upon the death of Innocent X in 1655, and during which Cardinal Fabio Chigi was elected pope as Alexander VII; Vignettes of processions and rituals, such as the serving of the food by waiting-men or the role of the "caporione", are displayed with accompanying captions. A plan of the Vatican Palace indicates the cardinals' cells, numbered from 1 to 69.
