Note: "VUE DU FEU D'ARTIFICE TIRE SUR L'EAU"--engraved in reverse above the image; "No. 154"--engraved in the right upper corner; The print shows the design for a fireworks display that was scheduled to take place on June 22, 1763, near the Place Louis XV in Paris, in celebration of the treaties marking the end of the Seven Year's War; A facade is elevated on a rocky island on the Seine, topped with an equestrian statue placed under a slender arch. Palm trees, exotic animals, putti, and allegorical figures appear among the rocks. Spectators are gathered on the shore in the foreground; Repository's copy has the lower right corner missing and mended with glued paper onto which the design was copied by hand in black ink. Publication: A Paris : Chez Basset rue St. Jacques a S.e Genevieve, [ca. 1763].
