Note: The draftsman, engraver and art historian Giuseppe Ciardi taught drawing at the Collegio Cicognini and the Conservatorio San Niccolò in Prato; Giuseppe Carocci, a Florentine etcher active during the first half of the 19th century, created aquatint prints of views of Florence and other Tuscan cities; The print depicts the procession of the Redeemer held every three years on Good Friday in Prato; The procession is shown at night as it enters Piazza San Francesco, which is lined with guards carrying lances and musicians blowing trumpets. Monks carry torches, a figure of Christ lying under a canopy, as well as a standing figure of the Virgin Mary; A dedication by Giuseppe Ciardi to Giovanbattista Rossi, Bishop of Pistoia and Prato from 1834 to 1839, is printed in the plate's lower margin: All'Illustrissimo e Redeverendissimo Monsignore Giovanbattista Rossi Vescovo di Pistoia e Prato / Cavaliere dell'Ordine del Merito di S. Giuseppe / Giuseppe Ciardi Maestro di Disegno alle Scole Comunali di Prato / in Segno di profondo rispetto e venerazione / D.D.D; Forms part of the Collection of festival prints, 1530-1887 (Special Collections accn. no.
