Note: Engravings by Cottart after designs by various architects including himself. Title engraved within architectural surround in form of chimney piece, plate unnumbered. Subsequent prints numbered 2-12 at lower left or right (5th print has a faint 6, beside an incompletely effaced 5). Churches identified in plates. Some architects named: Le Mercier (1, 9, 11), Brosse (8), Cottart (10), Mansart (12). Except for last print, plan of facade included beneath elevation or on a preceding print; BN gives the plate count for the present ed. as 11, "du moins pour les suites examinées ou signalées," and the author name as "Cottaert" while noting that "Cottart" also occurs; Dimensions from title leaf; An earlier ed. is described in Berlin catalog as appearing in 1648 under title: Recevil de plvsieurs pieces d'architecture qvi sont a Paris. The print count given is 10 including title sheet. The BN copy of the earlier ed., however, is described as having date 1650 and title: Recevil / de plusieurs pièces darchitectvre / Qui sont à paris et aux environs. The print count given is 13 including title and dedication sheets; Copy 2 forms part of: Ornament prints collection, ca. 1550-ca. 1830 (Accession no. P860001*); Getty c. 1 bound in 19th-cent. green paper over boards, quarter calfskin tooled in gilt; leaves trimmed to 26 x 19 cm; stamped dedication on verso of title leaf: A Monsieur / Monsieur Benoist Con.er / Du Roy Directeur et / Tresorier dela Monôye D'Orleans. Prints of c. 2 trimmed to or within plate mark, and mounted on sheets of paper 35.7 x 27.3 cm. with holes at left margin from stab sewing. Publication: [Paris] : Van Merle, rue S.
