Note: The print depicts the daytime view of a pyrotechnical machine built in Rome in the form of an multilevel semi-circular architectural structure, designed by the architect Paolo Posi. The structure also serves as a stage on which Orpheus is seen playing music, surrounded by animals. The machine was erected for a festival known as Festa della Chinea, the annual presentation by the King of the Two Sicilies of a white horse to the Pope on the Feast of St. Peter and St. Paul (cf. Lotz); Forms part of Brock fireworks collection (Special Collections accn. no. P950001**) Publication: [1766?]
