Note: The print depicts the entry into the Basilica of St. Peter's of Pope Innocent XIII, who was newly elected on May 8, 1721; The pope is seated on a sedan chair below a canopy or baldachin, while being carried in procession down a staircase. He raises his right hand in a sign of benediction to the onlookers. Two columns of five-line text are printed in the lower margin; Forms part of the Collection of festival prints, 1530-1887 (Special Collections accn. no. P910002**). Publication: A Paris: Chez C. Guérard rue de Petit Pont a l'Image de Notre Dame, [172-]. Catholic Church, Pope (1721-1724 : Innocent XIII). Possibly the son of François Guérard, the French publisher C. Guérard was established in September 1715 "proche la rue de la Huchette," in Paris. According to inscriptions on prints issued in 1722, he was established at the "rue de petit pont à l'Image Notre Dame," which had previously been the address of François Guérard.
