Note: Bolognese etcher and painter, who created prints on ceremonies, pageants, occupations, trades and life cycles; The print depicts the festa della Porchetta held in 1697 in Bologna. Mounted knights parade on a square, while armored warriors holding clubs chase the piglet and musicians are seated on a chariot drawn by leopards. The warriors are seen falling, as the piglet runs among them; An oversize swag displays the insignia of the Gonfaloniere and eight Anziani, with the shield of the Davia family in the center, showing a lion rampant holding a fleur-de-lis; The square is enclosed by arcades, city gates and towers, overgrown with vegetation. A standard with the arms of the city of Bologna floats from a tower, while another standard with the motto "Libertas" recalls the original symbol of the festa della Porchetta; Trimmed within plate mark; Forms part of the Collection of festival prints, 1530-1887 (Special Collections accn. no. P910002) Published: 1697.
