Note: Description of the theater was written by Bastiano de'Rossi, as he described a play La Pelligrina, performed here. The theater was noted for unprecedented equipment and machinery that allowed for special effects, including what was described as "changing scene," likely involving machines under the stage, cloud machines in the ceiling, and grooves on the floor for sliding panels. Mirrors and glass containers with colored water were used to magnify and filter the lights, to imitate various times of day and weather. The general structure was based on temporary theaters that had been designed by Aristotile da San Gallo and Vasari. The space that formerly held the theater is now the Gabinetto dei Disegni e delle Stampe, plus some of the 2nd-floor painting galleries in the Uffizi Gallery. | |
