While excavating an ancient Greek settlement in Babunjë, a region of Albania once populated by Greek colonists, archaeologists discovered this extraordinary bronze statuette of an equestrian. Found in remarkable condition, the craftsmanship of this armed rider on a well-groomed horse was immediately apparent. Getty conservators collaborated with the Albanian Institute of Archaeology to analyze, clean, and preserve this statuette. This exhibition reveals the results of the conservation process and situates this unique example of Albania's archaeological heritage within the region's rich ancient history.
