I'm a teacher of history of design in a local university. When I began to study this topic I didn't understand all the complexities of the historical moment when the manuscripts were made. I try to explain to my pupils the cultural and emotional charge that this historical moment had.

Your site seems like a great site, but I can't see any of your images (could be the flash plugin...). Could you let me know what I am missing? (I have the latest Flash MX player).
Thanks.
You need the Flash Player 6 plug-in to view the zoom-able images. Download it for free.
AOL users need AOL version 7 or higher to install Flash 6. AOL also compresses graphics, so you may need to turn graphic compression off.

This is fantastic. It is like taking a museum break on my computer.

I'm so disappointed the zoom effect doesn't work on my PC!
It should work on your PC if you have the Flash Player 6 plug-in. Download it for free.

Fabulous works. The amazingly beautiful illustrations are brought to life on the Web site, which is beautifully designed and executed as well. Very informative—"illuminating" in many ways.

Beautiful presentation.

Great use of Flash and beautiful pictures. There is one thing I miss however. Make an option to make the window bigger. Three sizes. One like it is now, another twice the size, and one full screen. Yes, it will be fairly slow, but it's more important that you can view as much as possible.
You are correct that the size of the image-viewing window for these zoom-able images is limited by the time required to download the large image files that make the zooming possible. A compromise was made. We appreciate your comments and will take them into consideration for future projects.

I have loved looking at illuminated manuscripts for many years. When in Italy I came across a library at the Seina Cathedral and was overcome by the treasure I had stumbled across. This Web site is absolutely amazing in its presentation. I will show my children and anyone else I can interest. Thank you!
