Scholars Program and Research Projects
Scholars Program
Since 1985 the Research Institute has invited scholars, artists, and other cultural figures from around the world to work at the Institute on projects that bear upon its annual research theme. While in residence, they pursue their own research projects, make use of
Getty collections, and participate in the intellectual life of the Getty Center and the Getty Villa.

Research Projects

Our research projects support the development of new art historical scholarship, and are often based on the special collections of the Research Library. Covering multiple fields and methodologies, these projects aim to connect Research Institute staff with visiting scholars with wider networks of expertise, and to disseminate results to an international scholarly audience. Research Project organizers welcome conversations with scholars working in related areas.
Summer Research Academy: Encounters in World Art History

|
Hosted August 9–September 7, 2012 by the Getty Research Institute, the Summer Research Academy (SRA) will promote research and networks with the purpose of connecting art historians across cultural, linguistic, national, and methodological traditions. Essential contributions to this endeavor will come from junior scholars in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. This year, the SRA is organized by the International Consortium on Art History and the Chaire de Recherche du Canada en histoire de l'art de l'Université de Montréal, and funded in part by the Getty Foundation and the Getty Research Institute.
