Engage your students in the investigation of photojournalistic images from the 1940s through the 1970s. These photographs were used to illustrate stories in newspapers and magazines, providing visual accounts of events that have shaped 20th-century history.

This curriculum is designed for secondary school teachers. Four objects from the Getty Museum's collection have been chosen to prompt classroom discussion. Questions for teaching and background information on each object are included in the Image Bank. California state visual arts, language arts, and social science content standards are listed in each lesson plan.
