Gyeongin (Korean painter and monk, active second half of 19th to first half of 20th century)
|
Note: Gyeongin was a monk-painter active in the second half of the nineteenth century and in the early twentieth. He studied Buddhist painting under Geumhodang Yakyo. He served as a head monk at Jungdaeam (hermitage) in Boryeong from 1929 through 1931. He worked together with Seongyeop, another disciple of Yakyo, and painters in Seoul and the Geumgangsan (mountain) area, including Chango, Chugyeon, and Sebok. Among his notable works are "Sixteen Arhats" produced in 1918 for Eungjindang (hall) at Seonamsa (temple) in Suncheon and "Amitabha Buddha" produced in 1919 at Geumjisa. |
