Yi Jeongjik (Korean painter and calligrapher, 1841-1910)
|
Note: Yi Jeongjik was a painter, calligrapher, and scholar who was active at the end of the Joseon period and in the modern era. He pursued a highly conservative traditional style of calligraphy, adhering to regular and running scripts in the fast-flowing cursive style (known as "tiexue") based on Mi Fu (1051-1107) and Dong Qichang (1555-1636) but with roots in the style of Wang Xizhi. His paintings were literati works with skilled calligraphy and brushwork and profound scholarship. Yi's paintings and calligraphy had a considerable influence on the calligraphy of not only his time but also later generation circles in Jeollabuk-do (province), thereby establishing a trend. |
