Pontificia Università gregoriana (Italian university, active from 1876)
|
Note: Originally part of the Collegio romano, the college was closed in 1870, the Jesuits expelled. The theology and philosophy departments were left intact, and the university rebuilt itself, renaming itself as the Gregorian University in 1876. The University, the Pontifical Institute of Eastern Christian Studies, and the Pontifical Biblical Institute were eventually federated by Pope Pius XI, in 1928, in a new building designed by Giulio Barluzzi, where it is presently located. |
