Record Type: Person
Weissmann, Franz (Austrian sculptor and painter, 1911-2005, active in Brazil)

Note: Austrian sculptor, mainly constructivist, he also worked with figurativism and informalism. In the 1940s, he studied at the Escola Nacional de Belas Artes, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and lectured sculpture at the Escola Guignard. In the 1950s, he became a member of the groups Frente and Neoconcreto. He received the prize of best sculptor by the Associação Paulista de Críticos de Artes (1970s). He took part of biennials in Belgium, Venice and São Paulo. He made monumental sculptures for public spaces of several Brazilian capital cities. A landmark of his creation process was that he did not design a piece to be built, but worked directly on the material, manually molding little models which later were magnified in metalwork.

Additional Notes:
Portuguese .....
