Gruen, John (American photographer, writer, and composer, 1926-2016, born in France)
|
Note: Gruen was a cultural critic and memoirist. He wrote about music, art, dance, and theater for The New York Herald Tribune, New York magazine, The New York Times, ARTnews, and other publications, and authored over a dozen books. He was a composer of art songs, and was an active photographer, documenting the lives of the artists of his acquaintance. He was born in France, and lived in Milan, but fled fascism in Europe, arriving with his family in New York in 1939. |
