Arnold, John (English watchmaker and chronometer maker, 1735 or 1736-1799)

Note: Arnold was a clockmaker who invented the helical spring (1775) and terminal curves (1782). His celebrated watch no. 36, or ‘chronometer,' was his first to incorporate a compensation balance, and was well received in the astronomical community. |
