Kim Eunho (Korean painter and educator, 1892-1979)
|
Note: Kim Eunho was a painter and art educator active in the modern and contemporary eras. In the 1910s, he studied traditional painting methods under An Jungsik (1861-1919) and Jo Seokjin (1853-1920) at the Gyeongseong School of Calligraphy and Painting (Gyeongseong seohwa misulwon). He painted diverse themes including figures, landscapes, birds and flowers, and birds and animals, but his main focus lay in figure paintings. He was prized for creating royal portraits of kings in a meticulous and realistic manner similar to a photograph. In the 1920s, Kim went to study in Tokyo and mastered the color aesthetic of Japanese paintings. Starting from the 1930s, he founded the Huso Association (Husohoe) that centered on his disciples and strove to foster a younger generation. |
