Kim Siseup (Korean painter and calligrapher, 1435-1493)
|
Note: Kim Siseup was a calligrapher, painter, and civil official in the early Joseon period who later became a monk. Accordingly, he was well versed in Confucianism, Buddhism, and Daoism. He maintained close friendships with literati including Seo Geojeong (1420-1488) and Nam Hyoon (1454-1492). He was famous as the author of "Geumo sinhwa" (New Stories from Gold Turtle Mountain), the first Korean novel in Chinese characters. He was also proficient at calligraphy and painting. His calligraphy followed the style of Wang Xizhi. According to some records, he also produced self-portraits. |
