Fontainebleau school (artists, active at Fontainebleau 1530s-1610)
|
Note: Refers to a large group of artists who produced sculpture, stuccowork, and prints from the 1530s to the first decade of the 17th century out of workshops in Fontainebleau, France. The name
refers to artists who created works for the palace at Fontainebleau, but it was also used by Adam von Bartsch (Austrian museum administrator and writer, 1757-1821; best known for having classified and identified a large body of drawings and prints) to refer to printmakers who worked during this time and in this style, but may or may not have actually worked in Foutainebleau. |
