Fossum, Sydney Glen (American painter, printmaker, and illustrator, 1909-1978)
|
Note: Sydney Glen Fossum was born November 18, 1909, in Aberdeen, South Dakota, to parents of Norwegian heritage. Fossum received his BFA at the Minneapolis School of Art. He also studied at the Art Students' League in New York City and the University of Michoacana in Mexico. He was active as an artist, illustrator, teacher and political/social radical. He taught at the Minneapolis Art Center, the Walker Art Center, the Dulute Art Center (director, 1960-1962), the University of Washington, Seattle (1950-1955) and the Des Moines Art Center. He was a founder of the Minnesota Artists' Union and held offices in the Minnesota Artists Association and Artists Equity. He was also involved in the Public Works of Art Project, 1933-1943. He lived in Minnesota until the 1970s when he moved to California. |
