Crichlow, Ernest T. (American painter, 1914-2005)

Note: Harlem Renaissance painter's work often focussed on social injustice, allegorical. and political subject matter. He worked on WPA mural projects, and as an art teacher in the 1930s. He began exhibiting in galleries in the 1940s. In 1958 he helped found the Fulton Art Fair in Brooklyn, and in 1969 the Cinque Gallery in Manhattan, which featured the work of African-American artists. Also a successful illustrator of children's books.
