Dong Yuan (Chinese painter, ca. 900-962)
|
Note: Dong Yuan is considered a prime representative of the Northern Song period style ca. 960-1127. He helped establish a tradition that influenced landscape painting for many centuries to follow. He lived mostly in Nanjing and was a member of the imperial court of Li Jing, second emperor of the Southern Tang dynasty. He painted a variety of subjects including animals and genre scenes, but is best known for his landscapes. |
