Elffers, Dick (Dutch graphic designer, 1910-1990)
|
Note: Dick Elffers was a student of Zwart, Jongert, and Kiljan at the Rotterdam Academy and was later an assistant to Schuitema and Zwart. Even though Elffers was trained by functionalists, he began to see the limitations of only that approach. He spoke of individual artistic vision and viewed photography as equally important to all other graphic techniques (e.g., drawing and painting). After WWII Elffers was influenced by Flemish Expressionism and used bright colors in his paintings and a changing combination of illustration, decoration, and hand-drawn typography. |
