Dooijes, Dick (Dutch typographer and author, born 1909)
|
Note: As S.H. de Roos's assistant, Dick Dooijes joined the Amsterdam Type Foundry in 1926. Among other typefaces, Dooijes helped de Roos design the Nobel face. In 1940 Dooijes succeeded his mentor as designer and librarian of the foundry's typographic library. He designed typefaces such as Mercator (1958), Contura (1964), and Lectura (1969). He also helped complete a serif type originally started by Stefan Schlesinger. Dooijes was appointed director of the Rietveld Academy in 1968. |
