Aqa Mirak (Persian court artist, active ca. 1520-1576)
|
Note: Aqa Mirak is described as an artist with great creativity. Aqa Mirak was a friend of the Safavid monarch, Shah Tahmasp I (reigned 1524-1576) and was widely known in the king's court. Four illustrations in a copy of Khamsa (1539-1543) have been attributed to him. Dickson and Welch divided the artist's stylistic development into four stages. Earlier paintings have figures standing in rigidly depicted landscapes. After reaching a more mature stage during the 1530s, the artist's works become more complex. However, Dickson and Welch state that after 1556 Aqa Mirak returned to his earlier style. |
