Shaykh Muhammad (Persian court artist, calligrapher, and illustrator, died ca. 1588)
|
Note: Shaykh Muhammad worked in the royal library of Tahmasp I (reigned 1524-1576), a Safavid king. He was also a famed calligrapher. Qazi Ahmad and Iskandar Munshi referred to the exceptional nasta'lio skill of his work. He also made portraits earlier in his career for the exiled governor of Mashhad, Ibrahim Mirza, in 1556. An example of his work is the Camel and Keeper (1556-1557). Another noted work is an illustration found in the monumental copy of Shāhnāma (Book of kings) made for Shah Tahmasp I. |
