Muhammad Hasan Afshar (Persian court painter and portraitist, active ca. 1835-1865)
|
Note: As a court painter Afshar painted numerous portraits of Muhammad Shah (reigned 1834-1848) and Nasir al-Din (reigned 1848-1896). In the Churchill Album (1847) Muhammad Shah is presented wearing a red tunic and blue sash. Later, he painted three magnificent portraits of Nasir al-Din. Afshar is also famous for working on small objects such as a pen box (1846); he painted the Last Judgment on the top with Napoleonic battles on both sides. |
