Sinan (Ottoman architect, ca. 1500-1588)
|
Note: Sinan was the chief architect of the Ottoman court from 1538-1588, and is credited with formulating the principles of classical Ottoman architecture. As the chief architect, he was in charge of all public works and is credited with designing approximately 476 buildings during this period, of which 196 survive. More interested in spatial quality and purity then decoration, Sinan's many renowned structures include the imperial domed mosques of Istanbul and Edirne. Turkish architect under Ottoman Empire. |
