Anzai, Shigeo (Japanese photographer, born 1939)
|
Note: Studied at Kanagawa Prefectural High School, and began taking documentary photographs of artworks in 1969. At the Tokyo Biennale of 1970 he photographed works by Richard Serra, Mario Merz, and Daniel Buren. His first exhibition was in 1974, and he received a grant in 1975 to document art at the Paris Biennale. He spent two years in New York researching modern art on a Rockefeller Grant 1978-1980, and made detailed photographs of Duchamp's "Large Glass" in Philadelphia during this time. He generally shoots in an informal style and takes as subjects his contemporaries in the art world. |
