Note: From 1867 to 1870, Lieutenant Charles Warren was the head of the second Palestine Exploration Fund survey of manners and customs, geology, and natural sciences in the Holy Land. Though Warren's survey mainly concentrated on Jerusalem, in 1867, Warren photographed in Philistia (Gaza Strip) and the Jordan Valley. In 1876, Warren published a book entitled "Underground Jerusalem" about his experiences photographing for the P.E.F. |
