Traquair, Ramsay (Scottish artist and architect, 1874-1952, active in Canada)
|
Note: Born 29 March 1874; died 26 August 1952. In 1891, Traquair began his apprenticeship in the architectural office of S.H. Capper, Edinburgh, Scotland. From 1904 to 1913, Traquair was a lecturer on architecture at the Royal College of Art, Edinburgh. Traquair worked as an architect in Edinburgh from 1905 to 1913. In 1913, Traquair moved to Montréal, Québec, to teach architecture at McGill University. In 1914, Traquair succeeded Percy Nobbs as the Macdonald Professor of Architecture. In 1915, Traquair founded the Architectural Association at McGill University, Montréal. From 1918 to 1933, Traquair exhibited photographs, watercolours, architectural drawings, and woodcuts at the Art Association of Montréal and at the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts annual exhibitions. In 1939, Traquair retired from McGill University and was appointed Emeritus Professor of Architecture. He retired to Guysborough, Nova ScotiaM. Canadian architect, Montreal. |
