Chiaveri, Gaetano (Italian architect, 1689-1770, active throughout Europe)
|
Note: Born in Rome, Italy, Chiaveri pursued his career in continental Europe. In 1717 he entered the service of Peter the Great. In Saint Petersburg, Russia, he was primarily active as an assistant to Domenico Tresini. Following the death of Catherine I in 1727, Chiaveri stayed in Warsaw, Poland, for 10 years. He then moved to Dresden, Germany, where he was charged with the design of the Hofkirche (1737-1753). Chiaveri was made a member of Roman Academy of Saint Luke on October 4, 1746. However, he never received any commissions in Rome where he resided between 1748 and 1766. He died 5 March 1770. Italialn architect, act. in Saxony, esp. Dresden. |
