Note: Berthier was a landscape and portrait painter as well as a photographer. He photographed sculpture at the cathedral of Chartres in the 1850s and reproduced the artwork of the painter Hippolyte Flandrin, as well as photographing in Italy, Switzerland, the Alps, the eruption of Mount Etna, Sicily, Italy, in 1865, and the temple of Serapis, Memphis, Egypt, ca. 1856-1857. |
